. The original south end of US 11 was a little ways south of Nicholson MS, just introverted of Louisiana state line. This was prior to US90 had been rerouted to its current crossing of the Pearl River.
. West of Bay St.Louis, US 90 initially swerved north, following what is now MS hwy.607. Prior to reaching Nicholson, US took a left turn and crossed the Pearl River, went via Louisiana town of the same name, and followed current US 11southwestward into New Orleans.
. Rather than taking a left turn at the junction if you go ahead you will be on the south beginning of US 11.
. This was the south end of US11 and the directly ahead was the eastbound US 90, and westbound was to the right. Few older maps name this historic junction "Santa Rosa".
. US90 was rerouted in 1941 to cross the Pearl River at Pearlington and in turn US 11 was on its own along the original US 90 south of Santa Rosa.
. But a person by name Adams says that it was the same year when the US 11 was rerouted to its present terminus at US 90 in the eastern New Orleans city limits.
. By the way, US 11 continued to cross the Pearl River on the old US 90 alignment up awaiting the mid-1960s. US 11 on its historic alignment all though US 11 was in fact using I-59 by that time. Even after US 11 traffic was readdress, the old bridge sustained to operate for local traffic until it was lastly dismantle in the mid-1970s.
