. It was in 1935 where the south end of US 15 got extended to Walterboro SC but for the first 16 years it ended up two blocks south of its current terminus.
. It's all just because of US 17 as in on Hampton street, not on Wichman Street as it's today. Now Hampton is SC highway.63 and signage where it joins Jefferies Boulevard.
. From the beginning this was towards the south bound US 17 which continued towards the left on Jefferies and towards the right was the beginning of the south of US 15.
. US 15 started by exiting here and going towards the left over the freeway and painted post is just towards the right. The control cities on the direct-ahead sign are Corning and Elmira. Gang Mills and Williamsport PA are listed by the right hand exit sign.
. And it was before I-86 designation with NY 17 through here within a few years that sign had been updated to comprise an interstate shield.
. Construction was underway after few years in order to replace this diamond interchange with a tri-level stack interchange to also accommodate a novel limited-access freeway for US 15 traffic, which in future can become an extension of I-99 in the future.
