. U.S. Route 28 is a defunct designation (in early 1950s) of an east-west highway stuck between Florence (Oregon) and Ontario (Oregon). In 1937, US 28 were truncated at Eugene, Oregon, which then became its western terminus.
. US 28 were replaced with U.S. Highway 26 when U.S. 26 was extended from Wyoming to the Pacific Ocean in 1952. The portion of US 28 from Ontario, OR, to Prineville, OR, became US 26.
. US 26 then continued into northwesterly direction towards Portland and Astoria. Starting from Prineville to Eugene, US 28 becomes U.S. Route 126, now called as Oregon Route 126.
