American Highway Code US Route 34 History
. U.S. Route 34(east-west highway) runs about 1,122 miles (1,806 km) from the Western suburbs (Chicago) to north-central (Colorado).
. All the way through Rocky Mountain National Park it is known as the Trail Ridge Road where it has a reach about 12,183 ft (3,713 m), making it the highest pave throughout the highway in the United States.
. The highway's eastern terminus is Berwyn (Illinois) at Illinois Route 43. Its western terminus will be in Granby (Colorado) at U.S. Route 40.
. U.S. Route 34 has become a toll road for a tiny distance in Colorado, where it passes all the way through Rocky Mountain National Park.
. Prior to the completion of Interstate 55 in greater Chicago, US 34 coincided with U.S. Route 66 by the side of its eastern end, generally along Ogden Avenue.
. A few years after US 66 was completely decommissioned like a numbered route in Illinois, as the result was US 34 east of its current eastern terminus.
